Keep the romance alive with fall date ideas
Fall is my favorite season. I love the cooler days, changing leaves and warm flavors that fall offers. Luckily, it’s my husband’s favorite season, too.
Here in Jersey, there are lots of fun things to do in the fall. So, we like to take advantage of our shared love of the season to spend some quality time together.
If you have regularly scheduled date nights, or if you need to get back into the habit, fall is the perfect time of year to enjoy each other’s company. From outdoor activities to warm evenings inside, these are ideas can appeal to everyone.
It’s time to take out your favorite sweater dress and boots and get ready to spend some quality time with your man.
11 cheap date ideas to try this fall
Tailgate a local college football game
Fall is football season! Whether you’re big fans or not, college football games are usually more reasonably priced than pro games. And how much fun is it to tailgate?! Grab your favorite tailgate foods, seasonal brews and yard games to have a blast. This is a great one to do as a group, so invite other couples and head out!
Go apple picking and make an apple pie
Apple orchards are in full production mode by the end of August, the perfect time to kick off fall activities. It’s much more fun to to pick your own fruit rather than just going to the supermarket. Walk through the orchards holding hands and pick your bounty. Then head home a bake a homemade apple pie!
Take a drive to look at the changing leaves
The best part about fall is all those beautiful colors of changing leaves. Take a scenic drive to a local hotspot or plan a day trip to another town. Spending time in the car together is a great way to catch up while also soaking in the season. Stop for a hot seasonal beverage to take along or pack a picnic lunch if you’re heading toward a park!
Go to a haunted hayride
I’m not much for haunted anything, but some hayrides are more fun than scary. Plus, being a little scared is a good excuse to hold onto your man for comfort. Begin or end the night with a nice fall-themed meal and you have yourself a great date night!
Watch your favorite Halloween movie
Hocus Pocus, anyone? Pick out each of your favorite classic Halloween movies and have a movie night. Pop some popcorn, pour some hot cocoa and cuddle up under a cozy blanket for a nice evening in!
Try cooking a new fall recipe together
We love trying new recipes, especially seasonal ones. You can try a new version a classic favorite, like chili, or go completely outside your comfort zone. Winter squashes, such as pumpkin, acorn or butternut, make delicious seasonal dishes. Do a quick search for a new recipe, go shopping for the ingredients and enjoy spending time together in the kitchen!
Check out a local winery
One of my personal favorites for any season, wineries are a go-to date idea for us. Check out a new local winery or pick one you haven’t tried yet. Some might offer a seasonal selection or mulled version of a regular favorite. Pack some cheese and crackers and spend the day relaxing at the vineyards!
Visit a fall street fair or festival
Many towns offer street fairs or festivals in the fall because the weather is so mild. This is a great opportunity to spend some time together and support local businesses. Try some street fair food, buy some fall crafts or simply enjoy people-watching.
Go to a pumpkin patch then carve pumpkins
What’s fall without pumpkins?! Instead of just picking up one at the supermarket, find your own at the local pumpkin patch. You can walk through the fields or take a hayride, sip on hot apple cider and pick out the perfect pumpkin. Then take it home and carve it together!
Get lost in a corn maze
Take an active date together by getting lost in a corn maze. Use your combined strengths to find your way out. Who better to get lost with than your man?!
Sample some pumpkin beer or seasonal brews
Many local brewers are now offering pumpkin and other seasonally flavored brews. Take a trip to your favorite brewery or try a new one. Sample only the fall flavors. If you don’t have a brewery near by or prefer to stay in, pick up a fall sample pack at the store and have an at-home tasting!
Final Thoughts
Fall is a wonderful time of year to reconnect with your spouse and enjoy the season. With so many fun outdoor and indoor options for dates, you can spend the whole season trying all these ideas.
Make sure to plan ahead and set aside the time for just the two of you to connect. Whether you decide to stay in or go out, the most important part is spending time together.
Don’t let the excuses of work and other obligations get in the way of your relationship. If you find it difficult to have a date night, schedule it on your calendar and stick to it like any other appointment. You owe it to yourselves to enjoy the season and enjoy each other.
The best part is most of these ideas are relatively inexpensive, so you don’t have to break the bank to enjoy these fall dates. Quality time as a couple is definitely more important than spending a lot of money.
